GermanBuddy — German dialogues and vocabulary for Windows
GermanBuddy plays everyday German conversations recorded by native speakers, showing each line with its English translation and a pronunciation guide. Choose how long each line stays on screen and how often it repeats, then let the app run in the background while you get on with your day.

Learn while you work - in your spare moments
This is the feature that makes GermanBuddy different from a normal course: it is built to be used while you are doing something else.
Your spare moments, used well
Learning happens while you get on with your work. GermanBuddy plays one line at a time on a timer you set, so five spare minutes still move you forward.
A small window that never gets in the way
It sits in a corner of the screen, or docks to the top edge as a slim bar. Your document, spreadsheet or browser stays fully usable - no full-screen lesson, no switching applications.
Every second counts
About 500 lines of everyday dialogue across 45 situations, plus about 2,000 words - every one recorded by a native speaker, and all of it available offline.
What is inside GermanBuddy
Every line and every word below carries its own native-speaker recording, shipped inside the app.
GermanBuddy is a lightweight learning tool designed specifically for German beginners. It makes full use of your spare moments, allowing you to learn while working on other things on your computer. It includes about 500 everyday lines of dialogue across 45 real-life situations, and about 2,000 basic words, all carefully selected as the most common and most practical conversations and vocabulary. Mastering them lets you handle everyday life and travel with confidence. The software is presented in a small-screen format that does not block your work interface, making every second of your time count.
Being practical and easy to use is what makes GermanBuddy stand out from similar products. Whatever your German level is, you will find GermanBuddy very useful for improving your spoken German and expanding your vocabulary.
Two apps, one product
GermanBuddy installs as two small programs that share the same audio library and the same licence key. Use whichever fits the moment - or both.
GermanBuddy Dialogs
GermanBuddy.dialogs.exe · everyday conversations
It covers the most common everyday scenario dialogues - travel, shopping, making phone calls, greetings and more - organised into 15 topic categories. It can be displayed at the top of your screen while you use your computer, with native-speaker audio, so you become familiar with these conversations without even realizing it.
- Fits into your spare moments: it runs while you work, in a small window that never blocks your screen
- Floating window that stays on top of your other apps

- Real native-speaker recordings (MP3) - every line recorded by a native speaker before release

- Each line repeats 1 to 5 times before moving on

GermanBuddy Vocabulary
GermanBuddy.vocab.exe · word cards
It contains about 2,000 basic words across 24 topic categories, which can also be displayed at the top of your screen with native-speaker audio, so you memorize these words without even realizing it.
- Word cards showing the word, its meaning and a pronunciation line
- The same native-speaker audio, played on your timer
- Show or hide the pronunciation line whenever you like
- Category focus (for example food, travel, business) and shuffle
- Mini Mode, top-edge docking and always-on-top behaviour
- Full keyboard control and a tray menu
- Works offline, with no account and no tracking
What the floating window does
The same small window underneath both editions, built for people who want to keep working while they learn.
Always on top
A slim window that stays visible over your other apps. Dock it to the top edge of the screen and it becomes a single line.
Native-speaker recordings
Every line is a real human MP3 recorded by a native speaker, so you hear natural rhythm, stress and tone. Nothing is generated while you use the app: the audio was recorded before release and travels with the product, so there is no voice to download or install.
Your own timer
Set the switch interval between 1 and 10 seconds and how many times each line repeats (1 to 5), then let it run unattended.
Mini Mode
Double-click the window for the compact view, or drag it to the top of the screen to dock it out of the way.
Keyboard and tray control
Arrow keys for prev/next, Space to pause, R to repeat, and a global Ctrl+Alt+W to show or hide the window from any program.
Categories and shuffle
Focus on a topic such as everyday socializing, travel, business, and shopping, or turn on shuffle and let the app mix things up.
A typical session
This is the shape of every card in the app: the line in German, the pronunciation line, the English meaning, and who is speaking. Recordings are played by the app, one card at a time.
- AHallo! Freut mich, dich kennenzulernen.HOW-tlih / froy-t mihHello! Nice to meet you.
- BEntschuldigung, wo ist die Toilette?ent-SHOOL-di-goong / vo istExcuse me, where is the toilet?
- AWie viel kostet das?vee feel KOS-tet dasHow much does that cost?
- BIch mochte einen Tisch fur zwei reservieren.ih MOKH-te EY-nen tishI would like to book a table for two.
Reading the card
- Top line - the sentence as it is written and spoken.
- Pronunciation line - how to say it. Hide it from Settings if you would rather test yourself.
- Green line - the English meaning.
- Pill on the right - the speaker, so you can follow a two-person conversation.
The lines above are examples of the format, not the full lesson file. The apps ship with their own dialogue and word libraries, delivered with the download.
Who it is for
GermanBuddy suits people moving to Germany or Austria, students working through the early levels, and learners who want to hear correct stress and vowel length before they try to speak.
- You learn best by hearing a language used naturally.
- You want practice that fits around your work instead of an hour-long lesson.
- You prefer buying software once to paying a monthly subscription.

Install in six steps
Nothing here needs an account, and the trial starts the first time you open the app.
- Download the installer — GermanBuddy-Setup-1.2.0.exe (recommended), or take the portable ZIP if you would rather not install anything.
- Install the .NET 10 Desktop Runtime (x64) if it is not on your PC yet: download the Microsoft installer (about 57 MB). This is a one-time Microsoft download shared by all six products.
- Run the file you downloaded. The installer adds Dialogs, Vocabulary and Uninstall to the Start menu. The ZIP variant unpacks into a folder; start GermanBuddy.dialogs.exe from there.
- If Windows shows a SmartScreen warning ("Windows protected your PC"), choose More info then Run anyway. The apps are not code-signed, so Windows says the publisher is unknown.
- Use it free for 7 days. The trial starts on the first launch and all features are available during it.
- Buy a licence when you are ready at our purchase page, then open either app and use Enter License Key… from the right-click or tray menu.

GermanBuddy questions
Does one licence cover both apps?
Yes. The Dialogs edition and the Vocabulary edition of the same language share a single licence key. Activate it in either app and the other one becomes licensed too.
Is the licence locked to one computer?
The key is not tied to your hardware, so you can move to a new PC without asking us for a replacement. The licence covers your own personal use of the product.
Do I need an internet connection?
No. After installation the apps work completely offline. The licence key is verified on your own computer, and nothing is sent to us while you use the app.
What are the system requirements?
Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit. The downloadable builds need the free Microsoft .NET 10 Desktop Runtime (x64) and an audio output device. Both apps and their audio fit in roughly the free space of one small game.
How much learning material is included?
About 500 lines of everyday dialogue across 45 real-life situations, and about 2,000 basic words - roughly 15 dialogue topics and 24 word topics. Every line and every word has its own native-speaker recording: about 2,496 audio files in total, all shipped inside the download.
Can I really use it while I am working?
That is exactly what it is designed for. The window is small, can be docked to the top edge of the screen as a slim bar, and never takes focus away from the program you are using. Ctrl+Alt+W hides or shows it instantly, and the auto-play timer means you can read a few lines between tasks and still follow the conversation.
Is the audio computer-generated, or does an AI model produce it?
No. Every line was recorded by a native speaker before release and is shipped as an MP3 file that the app plays back. The apps contain no AI, speech or language model of any kind, nothing is generated while you use them, and no online service is called.
